John J. Mahoney is an Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney assigned to the Special Prosecutions Bureau. John currently serves as the Deputy Supervisor of the Public Corruption and Financial Crimes Unit, the Money Laundering Unit and Mortgage Fraud Unit, supervising a staff of 24 prosecutors.

John has conducted hundreds of covert, complex financial crimes investigations in successful partnership with nearly every federal, state and local law enforcement and financial regulatory agency operating in Chicago, suburban Cook County and the collar counties. John served as a technical advisor to the Haitian government through the Department of Justice’s ICITAP, advising the command staff of the Haitian National Police on techniques for the investigation of money laundering and other financial crimes.

John received his B.A. from DePaul University in 1981 and is a 1984 graduate of the Chicago-Kent College of Law. John is the Co-Author of the Illinois Financial Crime Law, 720 ILCS 5/16H-1, et sec.
