Powerful Chairman Introduces "Do Not Track
Bill"
Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) introduced a "do not track" bill yesterday. S
913 would provide consumers a way to prevent websites from tracking their
activities on the Internet.
Unlike more comprehensive legislation that restricts the collection of
personal data (S 799, HR 1528, HR 611), this bill is limited to the
Internet. However, Senator Rockefeller, who chairs the Senate Committee on
Commerce, Science and Transportation, indicated in a statement that expects
the Committee to consider several privacy bills this Congress.
Privacy issues continue to garner the attention of several Congressional
Committees. The Senate Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law will
be holding a hearing today on mobile tracking by smartphones, tablets and
other devices. This follows several stories in the media about such tracking
by cell phone carriers.
After a slow start to the year on privacy issues, Congress is becoming quite
active. NCISS will be working with all the relevant participants on Capitol
Hill to protect the interests of the profession.
Keeping the profession informed,
