Making NCISS Hit the Hill
Appointments
Colleagues,
NCISS will make appointments for all Hit the Hill registrants.
However, if you prefer to make your own appointments for the Hit
the Hill event on September 12, now is the time to start making
your appointment requests.
Members of Congress will generally only want to meet with their
own constituents, so your request should go to your two Senators
and your Representative in the House. In addition, you may also
contact the offices of those members of Congress who represent
your business location. Contact information is available at
www.senate.gov and
www.house.gov . If you
are uncertain who your Representative is, you can locate him or
her by using your zip code in the locater at the top left of the
page at www.house.gov.
You may call the local office or the one in Washington, D.C. If
you are not able to see the Senator or Representative, ask to
meet with the legislative staff person handling privacy issues
or those dealing with Social Security. If you are owner of a
security firm I would request a meeting with the staff person
handling labor issues.
Here is the suggested message when making your call (for
investigators)
"I am attending the annual Washington meeting of the National
Council of Investigation & Security Services. Our members will
be visiting their members of Congress on September 13.
I am a private investigator and would like to discuss with the
(Senator or Representative) how pending legislation would harm
my ability to serve my clients. Several bills threaten to limit
my CURRENT access to information vital for locating people,
often witnesses in civil and criminal cases. I'd like to explain
how I use that information and why access to the data helps
investigators fight fraud and lead to more accurate information
for the courts."
If asked. these are specific bills we would like to discuss:
TBD
Legislative Bills that the NCISS Legislative Committee is
Monitoring click on this link
There are other bills on these subjects, but this should be
sufficient for getting an appointment.
Security Company Representatives
The most critical bill for security companies is the TBD.
Legislative
Bills that the NCISS Legislative Committee is Monitoring click
on this link Every office will be familiar
with it. So I would simply say" "I'd like to speak to the
(Senator or Representative) about how the bill could affect my
business and the security industry."
This information should be sufficient for obtaining an
appointment. We are now updating information on the bills and
will have it available prior to the DC meeting.
If you make appointments on your own, please let me know so I
can keep track, jim@nciss.org
See you in DC,
