Hit The Hill Results

Hit the Hill Results & Latest Legislative Bill Updates

Colleagues,

The NCISS Hit the Hill campaign was a great success with 68 investigators and supporters representing 22 states in attendance. The Legislative Committee and I would like to sincerely thank all these NCISS "Ambassadors" who met with more than two hundred congressional representatives and voiced our concerns about bills that will have significant unintended consequences to our profession.

Larry Sabbath, our legislative advocate in Washington, DC is now reviewing the material provided in the Congressional Visit Reports submitted by most of the attendees. He said, "These are the most detailed reports I've ever seen following a "fly-in" by NCISS or any of my clients." He is now going through the reports for both information and follow-up where necessary. These reports will assist me, Larry and the NCISS Legislative committee in targeting our legislative efforts.

If you still haven't submitted your Congressional Visit Reports, please take a moment now to send them to Larry at lsabbath@lobbyist4u.com or fax them to 703 666-9085. It would also be fantastic to send "thank you" e-mails to the offices visited.

The House Energy & Commerce Committee has scheduled a markup of HR 2221, the "Data Accountability & Trust" Act for tomorrow morning, 9/30/09. This is the data breach bill which passed the subcommittee Chaired by Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL) earlier this year. Because Rep. Ed Markey sits on the Committee, we'll need to watch for an SSN amendment. The Legislative Committee will do some further checking today and review the reports from last week's visits, although nobody reported hearing of a pending amendment during the congressional visits.
