Exploring Privacy

Federal Trade Commission (FTC) sponsored a series of roundtable discussion panels entitled "Exploring Privacy."

Monday, December 7, 2009, as was reported a few days ago by NCISS Legislation Chair Jimmie Mesis, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) sponsored a series of roundtable discussion panels entitled "Exploring Privacy."

NCISS participated in the workshop by submitting questions to be addressed by the various panels. Representing NCISS were three of us, Jimmie Mesis, NCISS Legislative Advocate Larry Sabbath and me.

Participation in workshops such as these helps to insure that NCISS keeps its collective finger on the pulse of privacy concerns and on-line; data access. A second roundtable will be held January 28, 2010 at the

If you are interested in the panel participants and the topics discussed, they are shown below. You will find it is an interesting collection of corrporate, government, non profit, academic and privacy representatives.

Tuesday, as a follow-up to the Roundtable, we spent quite a productive day visiting various Congressional representatives and discussing access to personal identifying information as well as the pending House bill, HR 3306 - "Social Security Number Privacy and Identity Theft Protection Act" that restricts the use of social security numbers.


After 35 years, we continue to be "Your Voice in the Nation's Capitol."
